Professional Speak-Ability (PSA)

Thank you to everyone who donated on Giving Tuesday to support and welcome continued donations towards A2A's upcoming program:

Professional Speak-Ability (PSA)

Donate

Who?

Your donation will support members in Professional Speak-Ability. They are people with disabilities and older adults who are working to increase their confidence in public speaking and develop speaking skills to deliver professional presentations.

What?

Professional Speak-Ability (PSA) is a professional speaking program building a community-based resource offering people with disabilities and older adults the opportunity to empower themselves by building, or increasing, their public speaking skills for personal and professional endeavours.

Where?

PSA will have in-person/hybrid and virtual chapters.

The first in-person chapter/location will be in Mississauga, Ontario.

The virtual chapter will be held on Access 2 Accessibility's Microsoft Teams allowing people to join regardless of distance and/or disability.

When?

Professional Speak-Ability will be launching in 2023

Why?

There are many professional speaking groups and associations yet none, that we are aware of, are dedicated to address the needs and wants of people with disabilities.

These are all great groups, however we people with disabilities need one that is a safe space where the focus is a person's abilities over their (dis)abilities.

Accessibility will be built-in as much as possible.

The program will have different levels. Members can move though to different levels or stay at the one that benefits them.

Below are some topics covered in different levels:

· Confidence in speaking to small and large audiences.

· Developing your elevator pitch and your speaking comfort level when networking.

· Delivering a professional and accessible presentation.

· Steps to becoming a professional speaker.

Feedback to member's delivering a speech at the meetings will come from:

  • The other members in attendance.
  • A technology platform will be used to provide reports and feedback on the members presentations including speaking pace, clarity, and more.

Individuals' disabilities & accommodation needs will be considered when being advised and mentored on how to improve their speeches.
